Thousands of Copies, One Playbook

The builder that raised this city built homes the way factories build products. Texas Monthly’s account of the Texas tract house records that Fox and Jacobs developed what the magazine ranks as perhaps the best-selling single home model of modern times, the 402, replicated some five thousand times, with its walls framed at a Fox and Jacobs assembly plant. Homes produced that way carry plumbing installed just as repeatably: the same routings, the same footage, the same wall assemblies, copy after copy.

That is why a repipe here can be something it cannot be almost anywhere else, a known job. The opening map, the pipe count, and the working hours for a given plan are established before the first cut, which turns the quote from a padded guess into a number that holds, and the schedule from a hope into a commitment. The original systems are aging on one calendar. The playbook for renewing them is already written.
