A Small Town Where Leaks Travel Fast

Addison covers about four and a half square miles, and most of it went up in the 1970s and 1980s. That single building wave left the town with original copper supply lines now closing in on fifty years old, threaded through the patio homes of Midway Meadows and Oaks North and stacked floor over floor in the townhomes at Addison Circle and District A.

The Town of Addison buys its water wholesale from Dallas Water Utilities, and that moderately hard, chloramine-treated supply wears on copper, brass fittings, and rubber gaskets here the same way it does across the county. Beneath it all sits Blackland Prairie clay, swelling after spring rains and shrinking through the August dry stretch, flexing every line cast into a slab.

The EPA WaterSense program reports that about one home in ten has a leak wasting 90 gallons a day or more, and in housing this dense, that water rarely stays on one side of a property line.
